Folktales

Hello.
Today, we introduce about two kinds of folktales.
(1) The Hare and the Tortoise
(2) Urashima Taro

folktale-foreign version

The Hare and the Tortoise
There were a hare and a tortoise. The hare said, "Let's race you!" The turtle accepted.  Then, they started running. At first, the hare was faster than the tortoise. So the hare took a nap. On the other hand, the tortoise kept running. When the hare noticed that the tortoise passed him, it was too late. After all, the tortoise beated the hare.

This story tells us that continuity is the father of success.

folktale- Japanese version

Urashima Taro
One day Urashima Taro helped a turtle. Then, a turtle took him to Ryugujo in sea. And he enjoyed there, and he received a secret box. The princess said, "Don't open it. If you open it, you will get old." But, after getting back to seashore, he opened it. Then, he became an old man. That's too bad.

The point is that if you break a promise, you will happen to meet some bad things.

Differences Between Canada and Japan

Since we came to Canada, about 2 weeks have passed.
Then, we will tell you the difference between Canada and Japan.

First, the food of Japan is very different from that of Canada. In Japan, there are a lot of fermented food, for example, pickled ume, natto, miso, and so on.

They are good for your health.
Also, the size is smaller than that of Canada.

Second, geography!
Canada is third largest country in the world. On the other hand, Japan is far smaller than Canada. In Canada, each house has a large yard and have wide space. So the sky is wide. We envy Canadian house.

That's all.

See you!

Hiking to Colliery Dam

Hello!

We went hiking to Colliery Dam yesterday. There were a lot of plants and fruits which we have not seen before. And we ate blackberry and small apple. They tasted sweet and sour. But Hiromi don't like blackberry because it tastes so sour. Here is a picture of blackberry.

We hiked for about 2 hours. So we were very tired when we came back to school.
By the way, it was pity that we couldn't see any animals. We saw only dogs! They were big but cute.

We went to Tofino :)

On August the 10th, we went to Tofino. It was a great place.

First, we looked around shops there. There are a lot of surf shop. Tofino seems to famous for marine sports, such as surf, scuba diving. Then, we ate ice cream at SUGAR SHACK. It was so delicious!!! Eri ate a flavor of maple walnut, and Hiromi ate white chocolate ice cream. We like ice cream very much. We ate tiny size, but they were big size for us. Things Canada are all bigger than things Japanese! Here are some pictures of ice cream.

And we went to seashore. Clouds were very close to us, so we couldn't see the horizon. We played catch there. We really enjoyed there.

Then, we saw a strange scene. Some shoes were hung on electoric wire. What were they??? We have never seen like that. It was so funny for us.

See you soon! :)

We are new bloggers!

Welcome to this blog.
The blog was created by Eri and Hiromi.

First, let's introduce ourselves.

Hello. I am Eri.
I am a Japanese university student. I mainly study English. I belong to American Studies seminar, which I should study American literature including history, culture, and music. However I decided to join the seminar in this July, so I have not been active in the seminar. I also study Chinese. Chinese is similar to Japanese, but it is difficult to learn.
I have two hobbies. One is listening to music. Especially I like jazz, and I am a member of jazz society at university. I am still a beginer of jazz, so I want to more listen to jazz.

Hello. I'm Hiromi.
I introduce myself. First, I introduce my hobbies. I like sleeping, listening to music, and going shopping. They are very fun! I often listen to jazz music and j-pops. Music makes me relaxed. Then, I want to go shopping to downtown in Nanaimo soon. And I'm going to go to Vancouver. I will buy a lot of things and souvenirs there. By the way, I belong to jazz club in MMU, and I am a leader of it. I play tenor-saxophone and drums. Playing drums is so fun. I want to go to jazz spot in Nanaimo.
Second, I introduce about my part time job. I teach English and math at juku. I have done it since last October. It is very fun! I have taught English, math Japanese, and science to some junior high school students and some high school student. Surely, it is hard but there are a lot of things that I can learn. And, at first, I donot like children because they were noisy. But now I like them. I hope to continue this part time job.
